If you enjoy watching companies IPO, 2016 has been a boring year. As of Sept 9, Renaissance Capital reported a 55% year-over-year reduction in IPOs in the United States – but as the weather grows colder, the IPO market is heating up.
While ridesharing services are best known for sending shockwaves through the taxicab industry, causing ridership to crater in cities like San Francisco, the endgame of companies like Uber and Lyft is even bigger.
There has been a slowdown in the number of IPOs in the first half of 2016, there are more than a few companies that appear to be aiming for an IPO in the next few quarters. Manhattan Venture Partners (MVP) has released its “Liquidity Watchlist“, in which it identifies the 25 private tech companies it believes are most likely to IPO in the next 18 months.
Chinese company ANT Financial, parent company of financial platform Alipay, is reportedly planning an IPO in 2017. If Alipay sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you’ve heard of Alibaba (ANT financial is an affiliate company of the Alibaba Group).
